Antville Project

Memberships

Hi, although I know for sure, a couple of people signed up to my log Ador.antville, there isn't at least one signed up user listed in the membership category? What's the prob?

Hi Anya

I just signed up to Adora. Can you see me on your membership page?

What browser are you using? (Might be a display bug)

Yes

I can see you. Warum funktioniert es nun?

IE 5

User "Arnee" ist immer noch nicht gelistet!?

i'd say this is because you don't necessarily have to be a member to post articles to a weblog. this appears to be a slightly twisted membership role model...

yes

that's why i proposed to change basic "membership" to "subscription" some time ago on this weblog. Can't find it anymore - browsing backwards in antville weblogs sure sucks.

Update: here it is.

my theory

i noticed the same problem earlier. there are some bizarre redirect effect on sign-up and login. i haven't really figured out how antville works, but i have an explanation

  • i think the server keeps track of the user via session cookies.
  • if you sign up while surfing with two or more open windows it may get confused.
  • the result is that you are redirected (and possibly registred) to a different site.

nope, you won't get registered to a different weblog (at least i hope so :-), but it might happen that you get redirected to the wrong one after registering.

anyway, there is a big need to rework the membership-stuff in antville (hns's [Macro not allowed in sandbox: comment.link] is begging to be discussed ...)

can you check who signed up where?

my friend "yam" reported that he signed up to our site. he received a cookie, but he did not appear in the membership list. can you see if he ended up somewhere else instead? i assume he is now member of a different site, because he received a member' name. well, maybe you can have a name without membership of a particular site.

yam is currently a member at two weblogs: eleph.antville.org and pl.antville.org.

i see

pl wasn't there when he tried to sign up to eleph. he told me he was redirected to the main site and it took us quite some time to figure out that he has to press the signup link again, but when logged in.
