favicon's while thinking about a way, of how to allow users to include individual favicons (those neat little icons in the location bar) for a weblog, i found out (to my surprise) that this is already possible. The Favicon is (at least for Mozilla) not restricted to the "image/x-icon" Image Type. So, in order to have your own favicon, just upload for example your 16x16 PNG-image, and include it into the head of your HTML-page with sthg like this: <link rel="shortcut icon" href="<% image as="url" name="favicon" %>" type="image/png" /> Regarding the original problem: making Antville suitable for accepting "image/x-icon" Images would be easy to implement. Add the new image-type to the evalImgType()-function in image/objectFunctions.js and make sure that Helma does not try to call new Image() for the uploaded data, but rather writes it directly to the disk (i could submit these changes into the CVS, if you want me to)

Re: favicon's i included a little ant as favicon into smi.antville.org (note: you will probably need Mozilla in order to see it). it looks like this: would be nice, if this is included as a default.

yep, obviously doesn't work in IE6.0

Re: yep doesn't work in opera 6 either. regarding extension of the image functions to more formats: it would be nice to be able to handle PNG completely (i.e. including thunbnail generation), but until then i'd say there's no point in hacking the image functions, because you could upload the icon as a plain old file as well. btw, michi, you never need an apostrophe for forming the plural. you should slap your fingers with a ruler... ;-)

png-support now works correctly in antville (cvs-diff), including thumbnail-creation (i tested it with interlaced and non-interlaced pngs). IE requires an .ico-file (windows icon format) for favicons, which can be uploaded as file (instead of image). so i don't think it's necessary to tweak the image-upload to allow .ico-files.

Re: ad apostrophobia (severely off topic)
The dogma-2000-people violated their own rules by intentionally putting typos on their front page (which they want to be read by thousands of people), just to make their point. Which isn't too clever, because your precious knowledge only does any good on the net if people can find it—mind you, Google has no spelling tolerance feature yet—and if it's accessible, i.e. in a proper format and not stuck "together with some gaffa tape". They're bloody arseholes. I don't care, though; I'm liberal in what I accept and conservative in what I send. Oh, and regarding the HTML: I heard someone's been working on a new version for ages, but still not done yet... ;-) ... comment
