Software update

I just updated the server software running on antville.org. This is somewhat experimental, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Let us know when strange things happen.

Re: Software update

One thing you'll notice is that resized images look less smooth than they did before. That is because we switched to a cheaper image resampling algorithm.

Ah! I guess "cheap" means in this case that it doesn't use as much processing power as the formerly used algorithm. Nifty!

Just follow the CVS log or wait for Helma 1.2.2.

Looks like a winner!

The most significant changes seems to be the reduced memory footprint for cached hopobjects. I was able to almost double the Helma cache size (from 30000 to 50000) and still it uses less memory than before (313M compared to roughly 334M before). I also increased the MySQL key_buffer to 80M and the sort_buffer to 4M as recommended here. The system still seems to have enough RAM free for caching (right now roughly 290M).

Sorry

This log doubles as antville development list, so I'm compelled to divulge technical details from time to time.
