distress I used to get atleast 3 - 5 comments on my earlier blog. After the move to antville.org, I had written one nice article and was wondering, why there were no comments. Thats when my friend informed me that you have to register inorder to comment. This is highly distressing. As you people know, hardly 5 % of people who read an article comment on it. and only 1 % of that 5 % will comment if they are forced to register. All blog sites thrive because of reader comments. Dont you think, you people should allow anonymous commenting ?? Please help me out if there is already a way to acheive this. This seems to be the only sore spot in an otherwise amazing site + application. Thanks and regards. www.itismylife.com

please mind that - although this works - it has a drawback: a user logged in this way can also post on all other weblogs hosted here (because they will stay logged in as "anonymous" when they change to another weblog here).

...and they can change the password and edit all anonymous posts.

...and that's why we should disable this "feature" (ie. check the referrer when logging in a user). anonymous posting might be a bonus for comment-collectors but it's a pain in the ass for site administrators. personally, i anyway don't tend to support the ranking horniness (who has more comments? whose weblog is on the frontpage?) of some people. ... comment

anonymous posting is not possible with current antville - and i don't think we're going to enable it. of course one has to register first to post a comment, but it's only necessary once for all weblogs hosted here (it doesn't matter via which weblog one is registering). and since nobody needs to wait for the password getting mailed to be able to post a comment, it takes just a two clicks (and a pretty short time). using the "remember me"-feature one even doesn't have to login anymore, so i don't think that's too much to ask for.

anonymous comments - howto if you want anonymous comments, use one of the external free comment systems for blogger instead of antville's comments. they are based on the fact that every post has a unique id number. same here. look at the url of an antville story. it is sitename.antville.org/date/id/. it shouldn't behard to tweak these comment javascripts to work with your site. ... comment
