Antville 1.0 Release Candidate 1 i'm happy to announce that the first release candidate of Antville 1.0 is now available for download (.tar.gz and .zip). There's also an updated version 1.0pre5 of Antclick available (.tar.gz and .zip). Those who have Antclick pre4 already running should follow these upgrade instructions. Together with this i also put an up-to-date version of the application documentation online (you can download it in .tar.gz or .zip format). Please give it a try. If you find any bugs post them here or - even better - in our bugtracking system. Please also post a short note here if you didn't find any bugs or strange behaviour since this is the only way i can estimate the level of testing pre1 has got. If everything goes well the final release of Antville 1.0 will be out within one week.

How to upgrade from Antclick 1.0pre4 to 1.0pre5 Upgrading is pretty easy as it just means to copy all data from the old Antclick to the new one:
If you modified Helma's server.properties copy them into your new Antclick directory too. That's it.

copy db/antville/* ? Following this instruction I received an "Error in application 'antville': Request timed out." in my browser and the bash says: ./hop.sh Starting Helma in directory /usr/local/antclick Starting HTTP server on port 8081 Starting Helma 1.2.2 (2003/02/04) on Java 1.3.1 java.lang.Error: Assert failed - area not marked as deleted. at com.mckoi.store.AbstractStore.addToBinChain(AbstractStore.java:1000) at com.mckoi.store.AbstractStore.free(AbstractStore.java:1331) and so on... Maybe I have to copy db/antville/* as well, as suggested in How to update antville 1.0 pre1 to the current version?

partial non-solution Unfortunately, I have no idea what causes your problem or how to fix it, but I can confirm that the above instructions worked for me, so I don't think there's anything left out. The db directory is for applications that use the built-in db from Helma, but Antville uses an external RDB, McKoi in the case of Antclick. The first two nodes you have in your db/antville directory are automatically created for every creation, but Antville never accesses them (I guess).

Partially wrong db/antville/* contains basic server setup information, such as the server settings, server name, server admin etc. It should be copied from the old installation to the new one, I think.

Turns out I hadn't tested the new setup thoroughly enough. One of the nodes contains admin-e-mail, systitle and some such things. This should be added to the HOWTO. Update: Has been added, thanks :-) ... comment

I just tried antclick 1.0pre5 on windows It absolutely rocks! my full name accepted as username (including whitespace and 'ö'), much improved empty-weblog introduction page, even more work done on the story editor, everything working smoothly... kudos. I'm really lookin forward to 1.0 final. ... comment

can we squeeze one more thing in? I congratulate the dev team to this daring feat of finally having all these important bug and performance issues sorted out so nicely! I'd like to humbly suggest that version 1.0 would, now that this work is done, also be a good opportunity to update the default skins, i.e. introduce valid XHTML, dispense with superfluous table markup, make proper use of <h3>adline and other markup, use dashed borders instead of the pixel-imagelettes, etc. This would enhance accessibility and cut down the size of transmitted code, which in turn reduces bandwidth usage and loading times. A proper CSS-based layout would also reduce nasty glitches like the whole page's layout exploding because of one wide comment. (The ultimate remedy for this would of course be a proper line breaking algorithm.) I don't know if you guys would be willing to make that change (/now), but if so, I'd like to help. I already did some research into this and could, for example, reformat those skins to resemble the current layout (i.e. header with image across the top, menus to the right). What do you think? PS: The new documentation kicks ass, thanks! ... comment

looking good only trouble was that i had the antclick first unzipped in a directory which contains spaces in its path, and then the datasource could not be detected. (i already mentioned this here) if anyone else can confirm this behaviour i would file a bug report (for Helma). ... comment
