Hi, I will like some of my friends use antville. But since Antville is currently closed for new weblogs, I guess, I will have to set up my own server. I already own a domain name, shantanuoak.com I have a web server that supports PHP and Mysql with 50 MB server space. Here is my question. Can I use the same server to set up antville blog? How much will you charge since I am not a programmer and will need a lot of help :)

If I buy a new server and a new domain name for this purpose, will it be a good idea?

MySQL is a very nice choice for the database, but Antville is not a PHP application, it's a Helma application. Helma is written in Java. Consequentially, in order to set up Antville, you either need a server with Helma where you can install an application or a server with Java where you can host servlets or a server where you can do anything.

Do you really need a whole Antville of your own, or just one or a few Antville blogs? In case you just want the latter, there's one server that lets you buy blogs (I guess more of those will spring up by and by), which is substantially cheaper than renting a whole server (and also much, much faster to set up).

If you buy a new server with its own IP, it's probably a good idea to assign a domain name of some sort to it.
