that future thing as a reader, it's kind of annoying to have weblogs posted at the top on the antville main page because they have stories posted for future days. this is counter-intuitive, as readers most probably want to know when logs were last updated with stories posted in the past, but not when logs were last updated by adding stories for the future. would it not be possible to add a date restriction to the weblog list? apologies if this has already been discussed, and i missed it, and thanks a lot for all the work you're doing here!

Re: that future thing I guess it really depends on what "posting to the future" really means on a weblog/website. If you take it to mean "a weblog item that should be published sometime in the future" than promoting that item sure is a but. When I implemented it, my intention was to provide something calendar-like, the possibility to post about future events which should not appear on the weblog home page, but should be reachable via recent mod-list, calendar, search etc. (see also this thread started by seewolf). So similar to stories that are only posted to a topic but not to the main weblog, Antville handles future postings as ordinary updates. If there is a common need for pure "post to the future" items where things should be completely invisible until the publishing date, I think we could think about adding that, maybe as an alternative to the current look-ahead-calendar style implementation. PS: does that mean that somebody is actually using the post-to-the-future feature? Where?

I missed the how-to for the post-to-the-future feature. Can you give me a link? Thanks. (I'm enjoying antville.)

There's not really a how-to for this feature yet - just a short message by me explaining on how to use it.

how-to i posted a short how-to at macros.antville.org. btw. i think it should be possible to enter the date in different formats or at least in a user-defined one (e.g. by adding the format parameter). but this feature is a little pandora's box, anyway... :)

drop down menues would be nice a nice interface ;-^ however, i suppose miss katatonik was referring to the fact that one site which used that future thingie hogged the number one position on the antville.org root. its most recent post was like two days ahead or something.

yesterday here. there's even an entry for may 12 (as visitor cursor sharply noted in due course:-)). i dropped serveral comments on blogs yesterday evening, but this blog just stayed on top in the root list. i assumed it was because of the future events, but now i'm not so sure anymore, perhaps the problem lies elsewhere? others have noted that the root does not refresh sometimes even though it should. perhaps this is the same bug? on the whole, i'd prefer having blogs listed in two categories on the main page: (a) blogs with story most recently added (in the past), (b) blogs with comments most recently added (can you post comments to future stories? mind-boggling possibility!) i often get catatonically excited when i see one of my favourit blogs has been updated, and expect a new story, but then there's just a funny one-line comment. the need for a blog-to-the-future-feature actually is beyond me, i can't really get why this would be a necessary, or a good thing, to have.

not the usual weblog the need for a blog-to-the-future-feature actually is beyond me, i can't really get why this would be a necessary, or a good thing, to have. this feature is hidden under the surface and not available in the out of the box site. its necessity obviously depends on the intention of the site owner. i could imagine loads of useful cases for it, like to-do-list, birthday calendar, schedule, programme of clubs or little cinemas etc. personally, i love those antville sites that do something else than the average blog thing. it's just a matter of time till someone comes up with a great idea based on this feature. ... comment
