idea for that link macro

what do you think about adding another optional attribute to the link macro to specify who is allowed to see the link? it would be cool to have links for contributors or admins only while regular users see the link text or nothing.

good idea

shouldn't be that hard to implement (although nothing is as simple as it seems to be ;-) any syntax-proposals?

syntax

two parameters would be better and similar attributes would also make sense for other macros. my first idea would be

  • for = admin/contributor/member/all (default is "all")
  • alt = text to be displayed instead of the link (default is the link text)

but you better ask tobi about it.

just remember

that you can't cache stories/comments that contain this kind of link...

ah

i knew that there is something :-) ok, so it's right: nothing is as simple as it seems ... thanks for the reminder!

so

i consider this proposal as a good idea, too, but also see the caching restraint. what to do about it, then?

ad syntax: "for" sounds ok although a name describing the parameter's function would be better ("allow"?).

"alt" is html slang and robert did avoid using such names throughout the whole macro collection he built. i don't have a good suggestion but i think it should be something like "denytext", "camouflage" or simply "message"...
