antville and the wikiwiki-web

according to the "wiki getting started faq", a wikiwiki-web (or short: wiki) is "a collection of web pages which can be edited by anyone, at anytime, from anywhere". while this short summary raises anxious questions like "you mean everyone could delete what i have written?" most of the time, let me put it straight right the way that in antville a pretty good user management system disallows any unwanted read, write, create or delete action by its users.

however, antville has adapted the wiki idea to provide the user of a weblog similar ways in structuring and writing information. still, many writers can work on one "document" by collecting various stories in one topic. each of the stories is assigned to its original author, however using antville's user role model makes it possible to grant higher permissions to trusted users.

the integration of the topic space into the weblog is realized by the special markup tags &lt* and *>. everything that is written between these two tags, no matter if in a story or a comment, is used as a reference to a topic. does a topic exist whose name is equal to the marked-up term, the term will appear as a link to the topic. otherwise, a link will be inserted after the term leading to an edit form that can be used for initial definition of the topic.

Welcome back!

I hope you enjoy the brand new antville! This version has a bunch of new features, i.e. Search, , Main, goodies etc. I hope everything works fine, but if you find any bugs please post them in here.

Since we completely forgot to keep the documentation up to date ;-) just a short explanation of how the main new features work:

  • topics an exciting new feature now brings new possibilities to antville for structuring your weblog's content. Main are like categories just a little bit smarter. first, you can define (or assign, resp.) a topic (ie. a category) to each story. furthermore, you then can link from everywhere to this topic using a simple markup: any name (ie. a word, a text or a term) that is contained in between <* and *> refers to the topic with that name (click on the "wiki" link below to try it out). if this topic does not exist, the name is followed by a link that opens an editor to define the topic. <buzzalert>all in all, topics bring <* wiki *>-style knowledge management capabilities combined with categorization features to antville.</buzzalert>
  • polls from now on you have another way to directly communicate with your weblog community about specific issues: simply create a with an appropriate question and adequate choices (just as many as you need) and let the people vote (try it out right here with our ). certainly, also polls can be layouted in full detail via antville's unique skin editor. in this version, antville supports single-choice polls, but multiple-choice ones already are planned.
  • search if you point your browser to the Search (e.g. by clicking on the link on the right side of this page) you can search the weblog for keywords. currently, the search engine result will display a link to each story whose title or text contains all the words you entered (AND function). however, they don't have to appear in any order or one after another in the story.
  • goodies just like the famous image upload antville now provides a possibility to upload other types of media. use the goodie manager to save your audio, video or pdf files onto antville's infinite storage space (just to give a few examples). the only thing we kindly ask you to be aware of is the upload limit of 1 meg. well, and there are other places on the net where you can exchange your illegally ripped dvds... :)

for further documentation and help we are preparing one (or maybe two) extra weblogs. please stand by...

yet another question

hey...just a small question here...I live in California, USA, so the time displayed on my antville weblog is very different from the one I'm actually in...i.e. I make an update at 11:00 PM, but the weblog says it was done at 8:00 AM the next day...is there any way to alter this? thanks. --dintendo
