Spacing

I played around with the Antville default skins and came up with what I think is a better text layout. But since these things tend to be subjective, I thought I ask what to do. The picture on the side compares a current vanilla CVS Antville site and one with my mods. Here's a list of changes:

  1. Site title style takes the color set for title in preferences. This was hard-coded to orange so far.
  2. There is slightly more space between author/date, title and text. This is achieved using line-height style attributes.
  3. line-height for normal text is is slightly streched to 120%
  4. Distance to the "link/edit" line at the bottom is significantly reduced, but there's still an offset to the text. As far as I can tell, this is also much less susceptible to the "end of blockquote-gap"
  5. commentcount macro takes additional "innerprefix" and "innersuffix" options which allow to add to the text within the link, so it's possible to have one unified "link (x comments)" link
Let me know what you think should get in.

helma or tomcat?

i just updated helma and antville on my server, but all i see is "The server encountered an error while processing your request. Please check back later." is this a helma or a tomcat error code? where should i look into first? i tried helma in stand-alone mode and it worked, but i can't get it to run behind that tomcat. any help is appreciated.

Blogger API

What appkey should one use for antville? Does antville support all methods of the Blogger API or only some?

A brief documentation of the supported functions would be great. Or is there one already, somewhere?

thx.

Changes 2003-03-12

  • all pages with default skins should now validate as xhtml 1.0 compliant .
  • layout, wording and naming have been unified.
  • image and file previews contain more information (image type, file size etc.)
  • added pagelink css class in style skin to customize prevpage and nextpage links.
  • window titles provide more information about the page's contents (e.g. story title, topic name).
  • commentcounter macro displays "no" and "one" parameter as is.
  • storyeditor has now a new layout which is much easier to use
  • linkedpath-macro was fixed
  • usernames can now contain spaces and umlauts
  • story management: code to embed a story is now displayed for copy & paste
  • changed default date-formats and removed the confusing ones
  • link to subscribing a site doesn't appear anymore if subscription is denied (eg. in private sites)
  • "rescue" mechanism for stories and comments was finetuned. if a session times while writing a story users will be redirected back to login form, and after successfully logged in redirected back to the story/comment form already containing the text written before. with this it should be really hard to loose a story/comment.
  • rss-action now has additional parameter "show=all" which includes the comments into the rss-feed.
  • rss only contains e-mail addresses of users who enabled "e-mail is visible" in their profile.
  • system management console now has a status-page showing memory- and request-statistics (plus some more info). system management is linked on the front page if the current user has sysadmin rights.
  • shortcut support was removed from antville core, it's a module now.
  • names of files can now contain spaces, commas, dashes, but *not* umlauts.
  • story timestamps are now rendered correctly with respect to the timezone specified in site preferences.
thanks to robert for the list.

We're seeing problems

at antville.org with Helma dying on segmentation faults in regular intervals, causing antville.org sites to be unreachable. We hope to fix the problem in the course of the day.
