Backlinks

I just deleted over a million worth of backlinks from our database, namely all becklinks from 2002. Our policy of keeping per-story backlinks forever just did not work out - the accesslog table is (or was) one of our biggest headaches. It causes a lot of the slow queries for MySQL, and when I checked I found it was corrupt again today. I think in the future we'll have to adopt a different policy of keeping story backlinks for a month or two, max.

During the time MySQL took to delete the records, access to individual stories timed out because the the table was locked. Sorry for that outage and the ones before which were caused by other db maintainance work.

Software update

I just updated the server software running on antville.org. This is somewhat experimental, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Let us know when strange things happen.

Referrer wird nicht gründlich genug geprüft

Das /referrers-Script läßt Werte wie 'www.foo.com"<h1>_Referrers_escapen</h1>' unverändert durchgehen.

story editable for ...

Antville's standard templates allows a creator of a story to make the story "also editable for ...". I take it that the creator of a story can always edit a story.

But let's assume I want to disable editing of stories altogether. Is there a setting in Antville which would allow this (and it's just not shown in the default select list), or is this impossible? If it's impossible - would it be possible to add such a feature in the future?

Related question: Let's assume I want to enable editing of stories in principle, but let users choose whether they want individual stories editable at all - when I post a story, I can decide to make it completely un-editable, even by myself. Possible?

I know it sounds weird to be able to block even yourself from editing your stories, but there's some use for such weirdness :-)
