Mailing Lists and project website

Some weeks have passed since the release of Antville 1.0, and in the meantime we decided to restructure the communication around the software development. We figured out that a project blog like this here is not the right form to discuss development/usage issues, so we set up two mailing lists: antville-user is dedicated to usage/setup/configuration issues, and antville-dev is dedicated for questions, comments or ideas about the source code, Antville's functionality or future enhancements, announcements of modifications etc.

Anybody having questions about Antville or is interested in its development is welcome to subscribe to these lists which will replace this project weblog in the very near future.

Additionally we've started to work on a project website located at our old server, adele.helma.org (this is a temporary address, the final one will be www.antville.org, and the current antville.org will move to blogs.antville.org). This website will be the place to find documentation, howtos, faqs, developer ressources, press information etc. It's by far not finished 'til now, a lot of documentation is still missing or needs to be destillated out of this project weblog here, layout needs to be reworked ... anyone willing to contribute is warmly welcome (btw.: this site already uses the new topic features aka "folders", so you can have a glimpse of what's coming next in Antville).

referrer spammers

userland has the same problem with porn spam in the referrer listings. dave thinks their intention is to leech off a site's good page ranking. maybe they simply try to fool site owner or visitors from google to click on their links.

however, dave suggests a robots.txt file. i'm not sure about it but you could easily install one on antville.org and see how it works. i reckon sooner or later they will come back via backlinks.

btw, in case anyone wants to become a hero in the blogosphere, go and implement a referrer spammers database complete with a nifty xml-rpc interface ;->

feature request

it would be nice to have an antville favicon for the default skin. helps identify antville weblogs in the bookmark dir of mozilla/firebird and other browsers supporting this.

listing stories by modification date

was discussed once (i think) - did anything come of the idea? reason being, it would be very useful for following older stories that are being commented on. as it is now, one is apt to totally miss those discussions - they drown quickly into oblivion in the flow of "recently modified".

please someone, let me know if there already is a way to do this by using what's available because i am too dense to see it. :)

new logs on new server?

I was wondering when we will be enabled to create new logs on the now improved server again?

I think this was the main goal of the new hardware and therefore some friends and I donated approx. 100 Euros.

Helma/Antville and Apache

I've created a page on hopdev.helma.org/doczone for collecting howto-information and tips and tricks for connecting Apache and Helma/Antville using mod_jk and the ajp13 protocol. It should collect all the collective knowledge and experience, including kris' recent postings here, and eventually be fed back into the ajp13 howto on helma.org.
